An abscess is a pocket of pus under the skin. **Antibiotics alone will not clear it**: it has to be drained. At Clínica Hispana Airline we do that walk-in, with local anesthesia, in the same visit.
A swollen, red, hot and painful area that grows over days and feels soft or fluid-filled inside. Sometimes a yellowish point appears at the center. It is different from a bite or a pimple: an abscess hurts more and more and does not resolve on its own.
Antibiotics arrive through the bloodstream, and inside a pocket of pus there is almost no circulation. That is why an abscess treated with pills alone usually keeps growing. The treatment is to open, drain and clean it; antibiotics, when needed, come afterward.
The area is cleaned, **local anesthesia** is applied, the smallest necessary opening is made, and the cavity is drained and washed out. Depending on size, packing may be left in so it keeps draining for a few days. It is all done in the same visit.
Relief is almost immediate: most of the pain comes from pressure, and that goes away as soon as it drains.
We explain how to keep the area clean, when to change the dressing and what warning signs to watch for. If packing is left in, it gets checked a few days later.
Fever, red streaks spreading from the area, or an abscess on the face or near the eyes. That gets seen the same day.
